Sugiyama shut its doors at the end of May 2015, after its lease expired. Sugyiama was a well regarded Japanese kaiseki restaurant located in the Midtown area of New York City. When Sugiyama opened it's doors in 1999, NY Times restaurant critic Ruth Reichl described her visit as a "disorienting... dream voyage across space that takes you, if only for a few hours, to the far side of the earth."

Since its opening more than 15 years ago, Sugiyama was known for its procession of balanced, well excuted kaiseki courses - from sashimi to miso black cod to grapefruit jelly with cream (dessert). Courses were made from seasonal ingredients and always elegantly presented.

Thank you Chef Nao Sugiyama for many wonderful meals.

Warm regards,
